The oldest open-air lapidarium in Slovenia
When on Slovenski trg, check out the oldest open-air lapidarium in Slovenia. It was named after the curate Simon Povoden, who, in 1830, had ancient monuments found in Ptuj and its surroundings built into the wall of the City Tower. These include fragments from civilian and military tombstones, ashbins, sacrificial altars, dedication plates with reliefs, and square blocks. Also part of the Povoden Museum are the sacrificial altars standing in the niches in the northern wall of the parish church of St. George, and the 5-meter Orpheus Monument made from marble.
