The gem on the Drava catches cultural fever in the warm summer months. Ptuj festivals and other events are an invitation to the streets, patios, squares, and other unique venues in the old city, which loves music, theater, film, poetry, contemporary fine arts, street performances, and having fun under the starry sky. It shares this love with its visitors. The explosion of festival events throughout the summer will cater to every taste. Immerse yourself in summer and culture.

The Art Stays contemporary art festival has been bringing the best that Slovenian and foreign contemporary artists have to offer to Ptuj since 2003, having featured a number of promising young artists, as well as big names, such as Ai Weiwei, Yoko Ono, Monira Al Qadiri, Gilbert & George, Jake & Dinos Chapman.

Just like every year, we can look forward to exceptional artworks from a wide range of art forms – from sculpturing, photography and painting, to art installations and performances, and music. The 17th edition of the Art Stays festival, with the title FUTURE – a Vision of the World, will feature international artists who explore the future, and try to answer the question: What the future holds?

Every summer, the international music festival Arsana presents some musical highlights in breath-taking venues. Our medieval town will once again host a number of exceptional musicians from Slovenia and abroad, and even the 10-time Grammy winners.

Days of Poetry and Wine have been successfully promoting poetry and best Slovenian wines for over 20 years. Every year the festival brings together poets from all around the world and best Slovenian winemakers, captivating its visitors with night poetry readings and intimate private events, plentiful wine accompaniment, numerous concerts, the Saturday poetry promenade, and other colorful events.

This year we will also mark 10 years since the festival has found its home in Ptuj. This year’s honorary guests will be one of the most influential and globally renowned Chinese poets Bei Dao, and contemporary Serbian poet and intellectual Radmila Lazić.

The open-air cinema is one of the wonderful things that make us love the summer even more. In the evening, when it gets dark and a bit cooler, we can find pleasure already in a simple stroll to one of the town’s lively venues. If the walk is rewarded with a good film, which will have us thinking for the few coming days, this is without a doubt an evening well spent.

The 10th Cinema without a Ceiling will provide a review of modern film trends, with a focus on European and independent production. It will feature screenings of some of the highlights of the past season.
