Hiking is becoming a more and more popular way of spending one's free time. The hiking paths in the region offer ideal conditions for walking in the natural environment and among kind people. One of the most popular paths is undoubtedly the Haloze hiking path passing through communities of Zavrč, Cirkulane, Videm, Podlehnik and Majšperk and the castle of Borl all the way to Donačka mountain. The entire path is marked by red-and-white carnations and is divided into four stages; each stage requires 3 to 4 hours walk.
The European hiking road E7, starting in Portugal and leading across Italy and Slovenia to Hungary, joins the Haloze path. The Mountaineering Club Ptuj organises every year on last Saturday in May the traditional hike following one of the four HPP (Haloze Hiking Path). The Club has published, together with its partners, a brochure/catalogue describing hiking and walking paths, as well as natural and cultural monuments, restaurants and inns along the paths. The brochure/catalogue includes detailed maps of each region and is available in five different languages in the office of the Mountaineering Club, the Tourist Information Office in Ptuj and in Cirkulane. The brochure/catalogue describes in details the entire Lower Podravje region, from the Donačka mountain to Polenšak hill.

Every Wednesday a group of retired persons discover on foot the near and far surroundings of Ptuj. We take care of our health, while through genuine friendly relations a positive attitude towards the environment we live in and people we live with is fostered. Our activities are expanded through links with similar societies in Slovenia and the life-long learning system. On 2nd January the Society organises the hike along Potrčeva and Murkova roads. When the moon is full, the organised walks to observe it group over 100 participants. On 1st May an early morning walk is also organised by the Society. Our members take part in the Sports Weekend in September, and Sports Days organised by elementary and secondary schools in Ptuj. As it is our sincere wish that tourists in Ptuj feel at home, our Society has prepared shorter hiking paths across the town. Contact us for more information.
