Jože Lacko fought for workers and farmers' rights, and led the anti-occupational movement during World War II. He died as a fighter for freedom of his nation.

He was born on 17 November 1894 in Kicar in Slovenske Gorice. During World War I, he moved to Nova Vas pri Ptuju. He followed socialist ideas.

In May 1941, he started to gather patriotic Slovenes for the Liberation Front Movement, and in spring 1942, he established together with members of the Ptuj Regional Committee a troop of partisans from Slovenske Gorice and called it Lackova četa. On 10 August 1942 he was captured by the Germans, tortured and on 18 August 1942 killed in the prison in Ptuj.

Jože Lacko is a symbol of freedom, courage and love of the Slovene nation.
