In the late 17th century, the counts Attems decided to leave a medieval castle of the same name above the village of Makole, in ruins today, and move to the valley. In the vicinity, they chose a gentle slope with a view to build their new home there. Pretty soon, the manor got its today appearance. Štatenberg, the summer residence of the family Attems, was built opposite the old castle on the other side of the Dravinja valley between 1720 and 1740, following the design of an Italian architect, Camesini.

The manor has an attractive museum part full of furniture, and a vast English garden.

The manor is known for its frescoes and stucco works, especially in the Great Hall and in elegant rooms situated to the left and right of the Hall.

In September, one of the most colourful months, the manor opens its doors to an artists' colony.

Near the manor, there is a recreational path, while angling is permitted in one of the four manor ponds.

And, if you are in love, you can get married in the manor.
