Town Theatre Ptuj has been present in Ptuj since 1786, when it was only a small and plain building. It reached its artistic peak in the years 1938 and 1941 when the stage manager Fran Žižek introduced the concepts of the avantgarde Burian D38.
Town Theatre Ptuj is a professional repertoar theatre with 3 to 4 premieres per season. It is oriented towards the modern theatre, which reflects the time we live in, in a serious and often also a humorous way.
It is one of those theatres, which puts emphasis on performing around Slovenia and abroad. The shows are visited by approximately 40.000 theatre goers each year.
The theatre organizes the Slovenian Chamber Theatre Festival (Slovenskega festivala komornega gledališča - SKUP), the Monodrama Festival Ptuj and Mlada dramatika.
Today the Town Theatre Ptuj belongs to one of the most active and productive professional theatres in Slovenia.
